Wireless Emergency Alerts

U.S. Cellular®, the FCC and FEMA have joined together to offer you wireless alerts about local emergency situations on capable mobile devices, free of charge in all of our coverage areas.

There are three types of Wireless Emergency Alerts:

  • Presidential
  • Imminent threat (categorized as Extreme & Severe)
  • AMBER alert

These alerts are automatic, but customers may choose to turn off all but presidential alerts. They use different vibrations and sounds than those for regular calls and texts but, will not preempt calls or data sessions that are in progress.

The text-like alerts are broadcast simultaneously to all capable mobile devices, helping us reach our customers wherever they are.
